Imagine someone yanking a hair off your arm. Ouch! Now imagine that happening dozens of times a second. It’s going to hurt, no doubt about it. I think most men are not man enough to handle the pain of epilation.
The first time I bought an epilator, I spent a lot of time researching which one to buy. Price is always a consideration for me. As I read the reviews though, it became clear that reducing pain is also one of my high priorities. Over and over I read that the Braun Silk Epil 7 worked with the least amount of pain.
After my unit arrived, I put it to the test. Frankly, it hurt, but part of that is that I didn’t know what I was doing. You can benefit from what I have learned from reading my article about epilation.
Different than many other epilators, the Silk Epil 7 reduces the pain one has initially. First to consider are the available attachments:
- Three caps control the amount of hair being removed at a time: Efficiency, Precision, and Facial. When you are just getting started, you can use the Facial cap to limit the number of hairs being pulled simultaneously.
- The shaver head for reducing hair length before epilating. Shorter hairs come out straighter and less painfully.
A second consideration is the ability to control the speed. Use the lower speed when epilating the first few times. The lower speed reduces the amount of pain, although taking longer.
Braun Silk Epil 7 Epilator Lasts and Lasts
“Lasts and lasts” has the word twice on purpose. First, the battery powering the epilator lasts a long time. Although the charge now lasts only about 30-35 minutes after having it 4 years, it will run for about 45 minutes when new. Even now the charge lasts long enough for me to do both of my lower legs and feet during one charge. With the included cord, it takes about an hour to charge it fully.
The second reason why I say the Braun Silk Epil 7 lasts and lasts is that I’ve had this unit for 4 years now. Mechanically, it works as good as the first day it arrived. I think that is amazing. The only downside over these years is that some of the longer hairs have gradually become entangled within the unit, slowing the rotating of the tweezers over time. I think this is mostly my fault for not cleaning the unit as often as I should.
I ruined my first unit by trying to dismantle it so that I could clean out the entangled hairs. My suggestion is to read about what I’ve learned about proper epilation, and then take my advice first to trim the areas you want to epilate. Using the included trimmer will keep your unit from getting long hair entangled within it.

I expect very pleasing results for you. Your legs will be silky smooth for days afterward. I’ve done it long enough that my lower legs are now largely free of hair, although they do need a weekly touch up.
